This paper designs a special automatic feeding device for steel pipe shot blasting machines, which mainly consists of a feeding rack, a rotating feeder, a feeding roller table, and a power system.

The rotary feeder lifts one steel pipe from the feeding rack, and the pipe rolls along the inclined surface of the feeder, being accurately placed onto the feeding roller table and sent into the shot blasting chamber.

Each rotation of the feeder can deliver two steel pipes onto the roller table. The feeder adopts a combined structure, reducing the force between the feeder and the waiting pipes, thereby lowering vibration and noise.

This design reduces labor intensity for workers and improves work efficiency by more than four times compared to manual feeding.

As pipelines for transporting fluids such as petroleum, natural gas, water, gas, and steam, steel pipes are widely used in industries like petrochemicals, steel, urban central heating, and water supply and drainage. Additionally, compared to solid steel, steel pipes are lighter in weight under the same bending and torsional strength, so they are also extensively used in manufacturing mechanical parts and engineering structures. To improve the service life of steel pipes, the inner and outer surfaces require treatments such as strengthening, rust removal, and painting. Surface shot blasting and sandblasting can strengthen the surface, enhance fatigue strength and corrosion resistance, and increase the adhesion between the paint and the metal surface. The steel pipe shot blasting machine is an automated external surface treatment device produced by our company, mainly used for shot blasting the surface of steel pipes with a diameter not exceeding 76 mm. Similar equipment often relies on manual feeding, which results in high labor intensity, long feeding times, and difficulty in controlling the rhythm, reducing the efficiency of shot blasting treatment. This paper designs a special automatic feeding device for the steel pipe shot blasting machine.

2 Working Principle of the Automatic Feeding Device

Its working principle is as follows: First, multiple steel pipes requiring shot blasting are placed on an inclined feeding rack. Under gravity, the pipes are neatly arranged and pressed against the stopper at the lower part of the rack, positioning the workpieces. The power system (reducer) provides power to the rotary feeder, driving it to rotate clockwise via chain transmission. The rotation of the feeder delivers the pipes onto the feeding roller table, and the continuous rotation of the feeding rollers sends the workpieces into the shot blasting chamber for the next process.
